Altitude: The altitude is less than 1500 metres in the eastern plateau but rising to between 1500 and 2000 metres in the west and north.
Temperatures: The sun shines nearly all year round, and, whatever the season, the mean daily temperature is close to 24 C (76F). The minimum night temperatures is around 10C (50F) and maximum daytime temperatures ranges about 34C (94F).
Seasons: The climate of Rwanda is made up of two wet seasons and two dry seasons. The short wet season lasts from October-November, and the main rainy season, lasting from mid-March to the end of May. During the dry seasons, which last from December to mid-March and from June to the end of August, frequent light cloud cover yields a pleasant, never stifling, temperature. Kigali, the capital city, is located on Rwanda's central plateau; its average temperature is 19°C (66F) with 40 inches of rainfall annually.
Culture & Society
Many people who had had chance to visit Rwanda have been amused if not intrigued by the fact that Rwandans are harmoniously living together only 10 years after the Genocide that threatened to shatter the social fabric and destroy century- long interactions among Rwandans. Today; not only are Rwandans living together but they share the common aspirations as one people as it used to be.
Music and dance plays an important role in the traditions of Rwandans. The Rwandan people have a variety of music and dance which range from acts that demonstrate epics commemorating excellence and bravery, humorous lyrics to hunting root.
ntore Dance Troup is the finest model of Rwanda's varied and dynamic traditional musical and dance styles. A wide range of traditional handicrafts is produced in rural Rwanda , ranging from ceramics and basketry to traditional woodcarvings and contemporary paintings.
Rwanda has thousands of exciting cites where one would find objects that reflects its culture. Butare Province which is located in the southern, bordered with Burundi , you find the superb National Museum which houses the paramount ethnographic collection.
The National Museum
The National Museum of Rwanda offers a fascinating display of Rwanda's history and culture. Its image provides insight not only into pre-colonial lifestyle, but also into the subsequent development of Rwanda as a modern African state.
